She was more at ease today so I struck up a conversation about the camera she wears around her neck. The old Minolta doesn’t work anymore, she tells me. But she went through the motions of taking a photo with it and she said the would-be subject called for the police. To hear her side of it, the police gave her a hard time, told her it was illegal to take pictures of people without their consent (which, if this is true, they were lying to her).

I’m going to make a point of taking a photo of the next cop I see. I almost never see them out of their cars anymore. It’ll take some doing. But I know where to find them.
